Constantly placed under the shadow of his teammate Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) during the Canadian Grand Prix, Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) did not mince his words with our special correspondent on the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit.

The Finn, fifth in qualifying practice on Saturday, even lost a place to Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) race. This sixth place made him lose a little more ground in the general classification; “Iceman” is now 5th with 68 points, and is 16 points behind the Red Bull driver.

“A disappointing weekend, he said after the event. But things are what they are. I paid for my mistake in qualifying (exit too wide in turn 2. Editor’s note) which did not put me in a good mood for the race. Overtaking is very difficult here. »

Indeed, the 2007 world champion railed about the lack of overtaking possibilities on a circuit which in recent years has nevertheless provided a great spectacle. “It was difficult to get close enough to Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) to open the DRS.

It's quite surprising because, on this track, we expected to see overtaking and fights. In fact, we relived a fairly similar race in Monaco, where not much happened. »

Kimi Räikkönen also criticized the behavior of the governing bodies, quick to change “everything, all the time” for the addition of a third DRS zone. Gold, “there are no more excesses than there were 15 years ago. »

And to announce in view of the French Grand Prix, contested on the Paul-Ricard circuit in Var (June 22-24): “I'm not sure there's going to be as much overtaking as there was in the past. »
