“Two schools of thought” to design 2018 cars according to Pirelli

2018 will see the introduction of a range of rubbers Pirelli renewed in F1. The Italian manufacturer took advantage of the season finale to unveil its new hyper-soft (pink edging) and super-hard (orange edging, while the hard tires will feature a blue edging) compounds.

Two new options which should allow the teams to be able to play even more on the strategy, but also on the philosophy of single-seaters according to the Italian management.

« We believe that with these tires we can leave designers free to follow two schools of thought, admits Mario Isola, head of Pirelli's F1 program, quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

Either very fast cars but quite demanding with the tires or more flexible single-seaters with the rubbers to take advantage of the softer compounds.”

Mario Isola also believes that two-stop strategies will undoubtedly be widely used in 2018. “We also want to leave the door open to just one stop. » however mentions the Italian.

The teams were able to test the trans range for two days at the start of the weekalpine, the first feedback from the pilots seems positive.
