Hope quickly gave way to despair on the side of Pierre Gasly in these qualifying sessions for the Chinese Grand Prix. In contention for a passage to Q2 at least and ideally to Q3 as in Melbourne last weekend, the Norman unfortunately did not cross the threshold of Q1 this Saturday in Shanghai.
At the end of the 18-minute mark and his last attempt, the pilot Alpine could not do better than 16th. A poor performance that can be explained by various factors, such as the preparation for its final flying lap as well as the timing chosen by the team, which was clearly not ideal.
« Unfortunately, we are a little lacking in performance., regretted Pierre Gasly on Canal +. We will have to try to work »
Regarding the course of his final lap, the French driver found himself in the path of Liam Lawson as he entered the final corner and then had Andrea Kimi Antonelli in front of him when he started his time trial. All of this combined meant that Pierre Gasly was unable to advance beyond Q1.
« In terms of time, we were a bit limited, so I was instructed to go straight there to try to get a ride.He says. I tried to do my best to make sure we had the last lap. Then I was just behind Antonelli for my lap… These are things to review, I think we have a bit of work to do to find more performance, because it's very close. »

Maybe the modification to the rear wing to overcome the new restriction is not for nothing in this decline?

A start to the 2025 season hardly more exciting than the anvil at the start of 2024!! Strange, we don't hear much about Brille A Tort...

Two bad timings in a row for qualifying?! What if in the end Alpine had really blown us away during the pre-season tests and that they would not be really better than at the same time last year?? My heart is torn between the two, fervent supporter whenever there is a French driver and from the only (still a little) French team in F1, I would not be at all upset by the fact that Briatoré makes a fool of himself!!!
