Ecclestone still considering 3-car teams

Bernie Ecclestone is exploiting the current economic situation to reignite the debate on three-seater teams in F1. The future of the discipline is worrying with teams on the verge of bankruptcy, the massive arrival of paying drivers, a significant drop in audience... The organizers and the FIA are trying to reverse the trend by all means (doubled points at Abu Dhabi, DRS, etc.) even if it means adopting paradoxical behavior by advocating both a reduction in costs and by implementing a Power Unit requiring even greater financial resources.

The F1 financier took advantage of his presence in the Singapore Grand Prix paddock to relaunch the debate on the very structure of the F1 grid. “It was always planned that if we lost three teams, the rest would be down to three cars. We should do it anyway. I would rather see Ferrari or any top team with three cars rather than struggling teams. We will know more about this in the next two or three events. »

If the question of financial support for the bottom teams has been suggested, Bernie Ecclestone does not think this solution is viable in the long term. “I've been here for, some would say too long, long enough to know that there are always people at the back of the grid. The problem with teams, which is understandable, is that they think about themselves in the short term. You wonder about next year but they worry about the next race. »
