Ecclestone: F1 has become 'very democratic'

While the Strategic Group of F1 proposed a series of measures to advance the discipline, Bernie Ecclestone always seems to regret the choices that have been made in recent seasons. The director of the FOM has always been hostile to the implementation of Power Units, preferring the noisier and less expensive V8s.

“At the beginning, it was not a democracy. I was speaking with Mr. Ferrari or Colin Chapman, people like that. We would agree on something and we would do it”, explained the F1 financier at the microphone of Canal+ in the Monaco GP paddock.

Bernie Ecclestone seems to regret certain decisions taken by the FIA, even if the most modest teams are struggling to raise the colossal budgets necessary to field two single-seaters. “Now it's very democratic with Mr. Todt. He wants everyone to be happy. And with competitors, it?s not possible for everyone to be happy?, added Bernie Ecclestone to the French channel. “You can understand that Mercedes don't want to change anything. If I owned this team, I wouldn't want to change anything. You have to say: “these are the rules”. If you want to participate, fine, if not, you leave. No matter who, goodbye! »
