The limitation of radio conversations in F1 divides opinion. If some drivers like Nico Rosberg are in favor of banning communications concerning the performance of single-seaters, others like Sergio Pérez are more reserved on the subject. Some people cite safety problems, particularly the state of the braking system, to criticize this measure. However, the FIA hopes to improve the spectacle and relies on the regulations which stipulate that a driver must not receive any external help.
If the Federation announced the implementation of this measure before the Singapore Grand Prix, it was Bernie Ecclestone who proposed this solution. The British businessman admitted to being at the origin of this ban in the paddock of the urban circuit. “I was the one who started this. I think none of the pilots want (these conversations). They're all happy it's gone. They drive the cars so they should know what is bad or good. They don’t need someone on the pit wall to tell them what to do. We have a regulation that requires pilots to fly their car without help. But they were and still are. There are still many supports that they should not have. »
