The New Jersey Grand Prix has been under construction for two years but the positive signs regarding the project's success are difficult to detect. Bernie Ecclestone returned to Autoweek following the second consecutive cancellation, with organizers unable to complete the project on time due to a lack of finances. According to the newspaper in which the financier of the F1, Leo Hindery Jr, the director of the Port Imperial Racing Associates organization in charge of the project, would have paid 10 million dollars (approximately €7). But the sum would be insufficient compared to the 345 million dollars (around 000 million euros) needed.
“The amazing thing about New Jersey is they signed a contract.”, commented Bernie Ecclestone. “They must accept the fact that they signed knowingly. They should never have made this commitment. We could sue them because there is fault. We gave them money and I have never seen anything come to fruition since. I am holding back from taking the matter to court because perhaps someone will take over, there are two or three people who are interested in the case. If someone arrives today, they can take over the business. All we need is someone serious. I gave Hindery too much leeway. I wanted to believe he would. »
