Ecclestone: “We can do without Monaco”

South Korea, Austin, Boston, Moscow? Many countries wish to host a round of the world championship of Formula 1. Certain European Grands Prix could at the same time see themselves deleted from the calendar. But which ones? Last Sunday, Bernie Ecclestone even told The F1 Times: "I think we can do without Monaco, they don't pay enough."

An essential step for the world of Formula 1 since 1955, after a first visit in 1950, it is difficult to imagine a season without this Grand Prix holding such a special place in the eyes of fans, teams and drivers.

René Isoart wanted to react to the words of the great financier of Formula 1.

“Our contract ended this year, said the general commissioner of the Automobile Club of Monaco on RMC.fr. We are currently in discussions to renew it. Bernie didn't tell us anything directly. We learned all of this through the press. We may pay a little less than the others, but we still pay. We have to dismantle and reassemble the Grand Prix every year. Now, Bernie always tries to get the most. This is what he has always done. It's not surprising. But I am not worried about the future of the Grand Prix. »

A statement intended to be reassuring. After France, it would be sad to see the principality also lose its Grand Prix.

“It would be dramatic, Olivier Panis, winner in 1996, also told RMC Sport. Monaco remains the most unusual Grand Prix of the year. There are always magnificent races. This is where the pilots are closest to the public. I find it very hard because it?s the most beautiful Grand Prix of the season. Everyone wants to add it to their list of achievements. They have to find a compromise. Bernie is probably ready to talk. He certainly needs Monaco too. Now everyone is defending their piece of fat, so there are tensions forming. »

Bernie Ecclestone is an ace when it comes to raising the stakes. The Briton always wants to achieve more, and his statements surely go in this direction. Let's hope so. The last event contested in town, and a race attracting the most people, it would be a real shame to miss such an event.
