Ecclestone is banking on a night GP in Bangkok from 2015

The light is green for Thailand. In the columns of the Wall Street Journal, Bernie Ecclestone announces that a new Grand Prix will take place there, from 2015. “They say 2014 and I say 2015. It?s serious and it?s good”, announced on this subject the big financier of the Formula 1, in response to the words of Kanokphand Chulakasem, the governor of the Sports Authorities, who announced in October the arrival of a Thai event from November 2014.

Since then, Bernie Ecclestone has clarified that a site has been selected. The race should take place in the streets of the capital Bangkok, and, like Singapore, at night. As previously announced, it was specified that nearly 60% of the total cost of the event would be borne by the Thai government. The rest of the bill could be paid by companies like Red Bull, or the local brewer Singha.

The potential arrival of this new event, to which must be added the new Russian and New Jersey Grand Prix in 2014, is likely to put even more pressure on the current circuits. Indeed, 19 events are confirmed for 2013 out of a total which cannot exceed 20, as stipulated in the Concordes agreements? It now remains to be determined which Grand Prix will have to give up their places.
