RP20 brake ducts: Racing Point and Williams also appeal

After Ferrari, McLaren, and Renault, it is the turn of Williams and Racing Point to appeal the stewards' verdict in the case which could well change the face of the Formula 1

All teams had until 09:30 a.m. this Saturday morning, UK time, to indicate their intention to challenge the decisions made at the same time on Friday regarding the RP20's brake ducts.

Penalized by 15 points and 400 euros on the results of the Styrian GP and only reprimanded for the Hungarian and British rounds, Racing Point finally chose to appeal. And this while the current judgment authorizes him to continue to use the controversial drawings.

Otmar Szafnauer, CEO of the pink team, confided his disappointment on Friday and insisted that the former Force India structure “ had done nothing wrong ».

Williams, which uses the same engine Mercedes that Racing Point but fiercely defends its independence, has also joined the dance. Claire Williams, deputy team principal of the Grove team, declared on Friday that she preferred “ bite your tongue » rather than commenting on the stewards' verdict. Actions speak louder than words.

At the dawn of the 70th Anniversary GP, half of the field decided to appeal a decision of the stewards, while the one that has been crushing the discipline since 2014 reluctant to ratify the new Concorde Agreements which should allow the emergence of a new Formula 1.

We imagine that other teams might want to play for time and wait until the final verdict in a matter that goes well beyond a simple pair of brake ducts.

The 5 teams having chosen to appeal have 96 hours to confirm their decision.
