With a positive spirit upon his arrival in the Middle East, Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) begins the final Grand Prix of the season in the best possible way. Author of the best time in the first free practice session in Abu Dhabi, the German is ahead of the world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) of a tenth. Once is not custom, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) comes into third place, only 28 thousandths behind the Mercedes.
The Finns Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) are slightly behind and respectively spend five and seven tenths on the provisional leader.
The leading teams dedicated a large part of the session to testing a 2018 version diffuser. The prize for the most impressive device is the order of Ferrari, which equipped the car by Kimi Räikkönen of a multitude of electronic sensors.

No need to worry if you don't see the name ofEsteban Ocon (Force India) on the time table; the Frenchman gave up his seat to recent GP3 champion George Russell (11th) for the morning. At the house of Haas, Kevin Magnussen did the same and let 2 GP2016 runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi (18th) complete the first session.
The first French pilot is Romain Grosjean (Haas), which set the 12th best time despite going off the track in the last sector. Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) finished 14th.
The second session of the day will begin at 14 p.m. French time.
