EL2 – Lewis Hamilton leader before the rain

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) set the best time in the second free practice session at Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) in 1'44''753. He is the only one to go under the 1'45 mark and is ahead of Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) relegated to more than three tenths. One Finn follows another since Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) is 3^e. 

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) signs on 4^e time ahead Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) in 1'46''072. Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) ends session 7^e before Esteban Ocon (Force India) who is far ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez in 12. ^e instead.

Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) is 9^e despite power problems on the two Italian cars and ahead of Jolyon Palmer (Renault) who completes the top 10. Romain Grosjean (Haas F1) finishes 13^e with a DRS problem at the start of the session. Felipe Massa did not ride, his Williams not having passed the necessary technical checks after a chassis change.

Twenty minutes from the end of the session, heavy rain fell on the circuit and prevented the drivers from going out again. Only Ricciardo and Alonso attempted a lap in the rain on intermediate tires but complained about aquaplanning.
