The rain was expected and it didn't miss the appointment! Under the beautiful Hungarian showers, the Hungaroring track was completely soaked, watered since the beginning of the morning. While Friday took place under bright sunshine and high temperatures, the drivers had to relearn everything to adapt to the rain. These tricky conditions gave rise to a surprise at the top of the timesheet. Nicholas latifi (Williams) was the most comfortable by setting the best time, in 1'41″480 during Free Practice 3!

The Canadian surprised everyone by snatching the best time at the very end of the session. This is the first time that he has finished at the top of an official session in Formula 1. Very comfortable in the rain, he had already signed his first Q3 on a wet track at Silverstone. The Williams driver was the quickest as the session was interrupted a few minutes from the end. Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) went off the track at turn 10 and hit the wall. The future retiree was unable to leave due to broken rear suspension. EL3 were able to leave with 4 minutes on the clock.

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), at the top of the rankings for almost all of the 60 minutes of EL3, is finally 2nd (+0″661). He is ahead of the other Williams driver, Alexander albon (3rd, +0″901) who also signed his best lap at the end of the session. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) is ranked 4th (+1″725) after remaining in his box for a long time. The Dutchman waited for the conditions to improve and the switch to intermediate tires to take to the track.

In fact, the rain calmed down in the last 10 minutes. Until then, alone Fernando Alonso (Alpine) had tried the bet of intermediate tires. Comfortable with the green tires, the Spaniard finally finished 6th (+2″090) but could create a surprise in qualifying. On the French side, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) achieved the 13th time (+4″090) and Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) ranked 19th (+4″611), with unrepresentative times. See you at 16 p.m. for the qualifying session in Hungary, to be followed in live text on AUTOhebdo.
