EL3 – Lewis Hamilton comes out of the woods before qualifying

If the session was calm during the first minutes, things got tougher afterward. During these FP3, it is Lewis Hamilton who set the best time in 1.04.369. It thus puts an end to the domination of Max Verstappen on the Austrian route. The championship leader fails two tenths behind his rival. We find the second knives behind with Valtteri Bottas (3th) and Sergio Perez (4th). We will not forget that the Finnish driver will receive a three-place penalty at the end of the qualifying session for his pirouette in the pitlane yesterday afternoon.

Behind the two top teams, we find the two Alpha Tauri, Yuki tsunoda ahead of his teammate Pierre Gasly. The sister stable of Red Bull can therefore aim for big points this weekend.

To Ferrari, there is better. Charles Leclerc signing the 7th time in 1.05.340. Alonso also confirms the good shape of the Alpine on this Red Bull Ring circuit with the 8th time in 1.05.400. The top 10 is completed by the two Aston Martin de Lance stroll (9th) and Sebastian Vettel (10th).

Big disappointment on the other hand for McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo being only 17th, Lando Norris only 19th, while the British driver had signed his first podium in F1 on this same route last year. This is obviously not representative of the performance of the orange team since the times of the last relay were canceled for non-compliance with the track limits.

Also note the very present traffic, which hampered a large part of the drivers, which will be particularly important during Q1, which will begin at 15:00 p.m. (French time). The qualifications will be followed in live text on our site.
