EL3 – Verstappen ahead of Mercedes before qualifying

Like the start of the season, the third free practice session was a small battle between Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Lewis Hamilton et Valtteri Bottas. A battle by the first city, more and more comfortable on the Portimão route.

Shod on soft tyres, Max Verstappen chained fast laps in the last part of the session until setting the best time in 1’18”489. Despite his attempts, Lewis Hamilton was unable to dethrone the Dutchman from first position, settling for the runner-up place by just over two tenths. Valtteri Bottas finished 3rd (+0“331).
