In many countries, including France, governments have largely contributed to promoting equal access for women and men to sporting activity. If only 9% of women practiced sport in France in 1968, today there are more than 50%. As of December 31, 2009, 37% of high-level athletes registered on ministerial lists are women. Female champions have acquired the same fame and recognition as their male counterparts. And if, in the majority of cases, women compete against each other, there are disciplines such as horse riding, sailing and motorsport where they compete directly with men. With success and brilliance. On the track as well as behind the scenes, as this special report proves. By Michèle Mouton, the former champion of rally, president of the “Women and Motor Sport” commission at the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, to Danica Patrick, who drives at more than 350 km/h on American circuits, through Marion Jollès and Margot Laffite, who host broadcasts on television, AUTOhebdo offers you, in its issue 1833, currently on newsstands, a complete overview of the fifty women who are making motorsport news.
