On a circuit where the medium tyre seemed to work much better than the softer compound, George Russell set the pole position time at the very end of Q3. Max Verstappen will start second on the grid, earning some ironic comments from the poleman due to their past on the track.

On the French side, Isack Hadjar will start 12th. The Racing Bulls driver received a penalty after obstructing Carlos Sainz at the end of Q2. Pierre Gasly will start from the pit lane, whileEsteban Ocon will start 14th.
