Based on how Free Practice 1 unfolded, Charles Leclerc seems to remain the man to beat in a single round while the Mercedes Benz showed better pace on long runs on hard tires. Leading a productive session in Miami that was extended to 90 minutes, the Monegasque driver finished ahead of Max Verstappen et Oscar piastriAfter a month-long break, the cards have been reshuffled by numerous technical developments. The question now is who will be able to master the Florida track and secure pole position in the Sprint race.

SQ3 – 0'00 – 🏁 For the first time this year, the Mercedes cars didn't lock out the top two positions, but it was Lando Norris who took them, on the track where he snatched his first victory. 🏁

SQ3 – 0'00 – Second, Oscar Piastri can't go after his teammate either! But Antonelli gets between Zak Brown's men!

SQ3 – 0'30 – It's a missed opportunity for Leclerc, who finished second, while McLaren emerges from the woodwork in this final part of the qualifying rounds.

23:05 PM – 😅 It's hot and humid in Miami! 30°C in the air and 51°C on the track…

23:04 – Isack Hadjar seems to be lagging behind. He is ninth in SQ2 with a time of 1:29.750, while Max Verstappen is more than six tenths of a second ahead of his Parisian teammate.

23h03 - Bortoleto, HulkenbergBearman, Albon, Sainz and Lindblad don't go into SQ3.

23h02 - It was more complicated for the Mercedes. George Russell only managed the fourth fastest time in SQ2 while Kimi Antonelli finished sixth.

SQ2 – 4'00 –❌ Lando Norris missed his lap due to a big slide in the chicane…

SQ2 – 4'50 – Conversely, the Mercedes does not appear very maneuverable, while Russell complains of oversteer and Antonelli loses the rear.

SQ2 – 5'00 – The Ferraris are in great form with Lewis Hamilton in third place, separated from his teammate only by Oscar Piastri!

SQ2 – 5'30 –⏱️1:28.470 for Charles Leclerc!!! He's more than four-tenths of a second behind George Russell. What a lap from the Monegasque driver.

SQ2 – 6'00 – Verstappen slots in ahead of Antonelli, one tenth of a second behind Russell.

SQ2 – 8'00 – Antonelli starts the second part of the session. 

SQ2 – 9'00 – Ouch! Max Verstappen doesn't let theAlpine Colapinto's car went into the pit lane. A pile-up was avoided, however!

SQ2 – 10'00 – 🟢The second part of sprint qualifying begins here in Miami! Six more drivers will be eliminated at the end of this session.

22h47 - 🚨​Esteban Ocon et Fernando Alonso They missed their last timed lap due to a major wheel lock-up each… outside track limits!

22:46 PM – Liam Lawson and Esteban Ocon are eliminated. Sergio PerezValttero BottasFernando Alonso and Lance stroll.

SQ1 – 0'00 – 📊 Lando Norris leads ahead of Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri.

 

SQ1 – 0'00 – Lawson, Ocon, Perez, Bottas, Alonso and Stroll do not make it into SQ2.

SQ1 – 2'00 – ⚠️Lance Stroll has gotten out of his car. He will start from 22e rank without recorded time.

22h27 - While most of the lap is run at full throttle on the Miami International Autodrome, some sections are slower and more winding. The end of the second sector is the slowest part, with a series of slow corners under the freeway.

22h23 - There won't be just one race with stakes, but two, with the sprint format. 32 points will be up for grabs during this American weekend. Consequently, there was only one free practice session on Friday, May 1st.

22h20 - ⛅While the weather threatens to disrupt Sunday's Grand Prix, the sun is currently shining brightly at Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

22h17 - While ten of the eleven teams have made improvements for this restart in Florida, it is Ferrari that arrives with the most significant package to try and overturn the hierarchy.
