We expected to find a Pierre Gasly quite annoyed after his only successful 15th time in Free Practice 2. It was nothing of the sort. We're not going to tell stories, the Norman wasn't jumping to the ceiling, but he was strangely not that pessimistic after Friday.

“It was quite a difficult day, explained the Frenchman, but I was happy with my turn. I managed to put everything together in FP2. The only problem is that in terms of performance, we're not there at all, we're lacking a bit of speed. We need to understand what's going on. It's not a big balance issue, but we slip a lot with Yuki. We will see what we can improve for Saturday, in order to gain performance and fight for entry into Q2. »

As a reminder, Alpha Tauri brought to last week's French Grand Prix a salvo of improvements meant to allow it to take a significant step forward. This paid off in the car of Yuki Tsunoda, 8th at Paul Ricard, but the Japanese this time could not do better than 19th at the end of the second free practice session.

On a regular basis, the points on Sunday seem unthinkable given this first day, which saw the two drivers finish 13th and 14th in the session. “The appearance of rain would not be refused for Saturday, smiled Gasly. Based on the weather forecast, it could rain tomorrow and these are conditions that I love and which reshuffle the cards a bit. »

This Friday evening, as we write these lines, the chances of rain for Free Practice 3 (13 p.m.) and especially for qualifying (16 p.m.) are estimated at 80%, with a slightly lower risk (60%) in end of session. Like the good Norman that he is, Gasly will cross his fingers all evening, and pray to the heavens that the showers continue until Sunday, where there is currently only a 20% chance of precipitation.
