In search of consistency, Ferrari wants to put an end to its performance variations

Since the beginning of the season, Ferrari has been blowing hot and cold depending on the circuits and sessions. If Lewis Hamilton offered to the Team a resounding victory in the Sprint in China, the team's other performances have remained behind, at best just off the podium, at worst at the bottom of the top 10. To explain these fluctuations, the team's deputy director, Jérôme D'Ambrosio, highlights the density of the current field and the extreme sensitivity of the single-seaters. “What’s complicated is that everything is very tight. explains the Belgian. When I say we're a little behind, if you're doing a good job and a competing team isn't maximizing their package, then you're still in the game. Giving a true picture of performance is actually difficult. You know roughly where you stand, but the impact of how you work and maximize what you have, in general and over the weekend, plays a huge role."

The good example remains China, where Ferrari was able to take advantage of the conditions to allow Lewis Hamilton to take victory in the sprint race, but from qualifying onwards the picture turned bleak. The SF-25 fell back into its old ways and fell back in the rankings because the other teams managed their car setup well.

Ferrari is on the right track according to D'Ambrosio

"That's why you can see variations. It's no different from what we saw last year, from one circuit to another or even within the same weekend. continues D'Ambrosio. If you optimize everything, you can appear in a better light and that can make the difference in the standings. That's what happens when teams are so close together."

“There's no one thing—it's not like we have to fix this or that. We're pretty close. In the end, it's a mix of several elements: trying to improve the balance of the car, adding a little downforce, putting each element in the right operating window. lists the deputy director of Ferrari. That's how we ultimately move forward. It's lots of small gains, in many areas, that end up producing results. That's really the approach we try to take—a stable approach. We believe that, over the long term, that's what delivers performance."

In Bahrain, Ferrari brought a new floor to its car in order to find more performance, without however waiting for a revolution. First elements of answers from the qualifying session this Saturday at 18 p.m.
