As a reminder, two drivers are competing for the Mercedes seat next year. On the one hand Valtteri Bottas, faithful lieutenant since 2017 and the surprise retirement of Nico Rosberg. On the other side, George Russell who excels in his performances, as shown by his second place in qualifying at Spa.

There are pros and cons like in every line-up. Both deserve to have a seat in F1 next year because both drivers are part of the Mercedes family. »

One of the aspects that casts doubt at Mercedes is the internal understanding between Hamilton and Russell. Because if the seven-time world champion always shows his support publicly for his compatriot, as after Imola, Hamilton had taken badly to the fact that it was Russell who replaced him when he had COVID-19 at the end of last season. And at Mercedes, we especially do not want to relive a scenario that lasted between 2014 and 2016.
