Eric Boullier: “Huge disappointment”

To Renault, the Japanese Grand Prix did not last long, less than ten seconds for Vitaly Petrov, less than ten minutes for Robert Kubica. Therefore, the disappointment is legitimate for the team?enstone, who had a lot of hope for this race. After Vitaly Petrov's mistake at the start and Robert Kubica's lost wheel after a few laps, Eric Boullier took stock of this Japanese weekend.

« It is of course a huge disappointment, the boss of Renault confided to us F1 at the end of a grueling weekend. We had a good qualifying session with Robert who put in an incredible lap. Chance (penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton) means that we start third, our cars made a very good start, perhaps even too good on the part of Vitaly. For his part, Robert found himself second from the first corner and we know the rest. There is only one word: disappointment. »

At the end of the Suzuka race, Robert Kubica's wheel loss remained unexplained. However, the loss of the wheel nut is most certainly the cause of the incident. And, to find out the reasons for its failure, the staff of the Enstone team went to explore the edges of the track in order to find answers to this mysterious abandonment.

Despite everything, Eric Boullier wants to remain optimistic for the end of the season, while retaining the positive points of the Suzuka weekend. “ The positive is to have qualified in the second row. Then there are tracks like Brazil or Abu Dhabi which could allow us to qualify in identical positions. If we manage to get good starts and finish the races, we can hope for podiums. »
