La F1 Do you miss her?
F1 will remain F1, namely the premier category of motor racing. I love this sport. The sensations behind the wheel, especially the speed of going through curves, are incredible but I don't feel absolute emptiness either.
Is it because you like life as a sports expatriate across the Atlantic?
I actually enjoy it a lot. I didn't know what to expect when going to the United States but I'm having a great adventure. It’s quite a challenge because the level of competition is really high. It’s a one-design championship so the gaps are very tight. And the guys are real specialists while I discover all the trails, which are difficult to master.
You still managed to quickly find your way back to the podium in Detroit, a first since 2013…
In each race, I know that I have the chance to fight at the front. It's complicated obviously because there are plenty of good drivers but at least I'm not leaving thinking that everything is over. When I was in F1, I don't think I felt this feeling, even once.
You said last year that you were aiming for a return to Grands Prix for 2020. Are you still in this state of mind?
For the moment, I see myself continuing my journey in the United States. I'm having a good time and I'm starting to understand the subtleties of driving IndyCar. I would love to stay and see what I can do with more experience. So I'm looking to sign a contract there for 2020. Afterwards, I never close the door.
