Ericsson: Sauber now focused on performance

Marcus Ericsson will aim in 2017 to return to the points, his last top ten dating back to the 2015 Italian Grand Prix where he took 8th place. The Swede ensures that the structure of Hinwil has been on the right track sinceit was taken over by Longbow Finances SA last July.

“The financial stability that the team now benefits from has already made a big difference and many people who have just arrived will further accentuate the phenomenon, said on the official F1 website Marcus Ericsson who also believes that the new regulations will be favorable to his team. Each person on the team is now motivated with this new start. Instead of focusing on maintaining, everyone works 100% on performance. »

Marcus Ericsson will also change his approach at the start of the meeting where the Swede put pressure on himself too quickly.

“I always tried to be fast in every session. If I wasn't, I started to get frustrated and overdrive, admitted the Sauber driver. From now on, I approach testing by focusing solely on preparing for Q3 and the race… It makes a big difference for me. It's never too late to learn. »

If the Swede played last year with Felipe Nasr, he will have a lot to do this season with Pascal Wehrlein who will only have the objective of proving Mercedes that he deserved his place as Nico Rosberg's replacement.

“His arrival is great news for Sauber and me, assured the Scandinavian. Pascal is very fast, respectful and has a solid CV. We can really push each other. I have great respect for him. He won the DTM (in 2015) and he has been part of the Mercedes family for a long time, which proves that they believe in him. My goal is obviously to beat him and I expect it to be close between us, but that's exactly what I need to be at my best. »
