Spain – EL3: Sainz shows up before qualifying, Top 4 in one tenth

A few hours before qualifying, it was Carlos Sainz who stood out by setting the best time in Free Practice 3, ahead of Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc.

  • The gaps are as tight as ever in Barcelona, ​​and qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix promises to be spectacular! For the third and final Free Practice session, it is Carlos Sainz who achieved the best time in 1'13″013. The pilot Ferrari, in front of his audience this weekend, leads a very close Top 4 in terms of performance, since less than a tenth separates him from fourth place!
  • Lando Norris, author of the second time, failed only 30 thousandths from the reference time set by the Madrilenian. Charles Leclerc (+0″037) completes the Top 3 with also a very small gap with his Ferrari teammate. Max Verstappen, fourth, is only 74 thousandths behind Carlos Sainz's best time.
  • Behind the Top 4, the Mercedes are also in ambush with a group shot in 5th and 6th row, with George Russell (+0″151) in front Lewis Hamilton (+0″346). Surprising Friday, the Alpine came back into line with an 11th time for Esteban Ocon (+0″937) and the 12th time for Pierre Gasly (+0″951).
  • A tense Free Practice session between certain drivers with two dangerous situations. Lance stroll, hampered by Lewis Hamilton in turn 5, pressed the Briton until he touched the front-right wheel of the Mercedes. At the end of the session, it was Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris who made contact approaching turn 6, with a very clumsy maneuver from the Monegasque in front of the Briton. Both incidents were noted by race management, who launched an investigation.

  • Before the start of Free Practice 3, the paddock was shaken by a fire in the motorhome McLaren, who had to be evacuated. All members of the British team as well as guests were evacuated without problem. No injuries were reported. For security reasons, the hospitality ofAlpine, which is located right next door, also had to be evacuated.
