Winter Testing Day 3 – Russell denies Verstappen best time in final moments

Max Verstappen believed in it, but George Russell took it upon himself to dampen his counterpart's hopes. Set to set the best lap of the day in 1'29"566, the Dutchman saw the Englishman put on a new set of medium tyres for a final fast outing.

It only took him one attempt to beat the mark of the reigning four-time world champion. His time of 1'29"545 allowed him to take the lead by just 21 thousandths and not be caught again after that. For Max Verstappen this second session of the day was nevertheless encouraging.

Lined up for the whole day, the Dutchman had not started this second session of the day in the best possible way. After waiting for long minutes in his covered garage, the quadruple world champion was not satisfied with his first fast laps, often shaking his head in his cockpit after missing a few corner exits or restarts among other things.

A visit to his garage allowed him to get back on track and set slightly more competitive times. Although he “bowed” to George Russell, the driver Red Bull remains nonetheless satisfied with the pace displayed during this last outing of the week. Alex Albon, Oscar piastri et Pierre Gasly completed the Top 5.

For its part, Esteban Ocon finally worked on something other than long stints. This time, the Norman was able to let loose a little more and do a few fast laps. Not necessarily to play in front but at least to get a first idea of ​​the potential of the HaasThe Tricolore finished their Friday in 9th place, 1 behind George Russell.

Sick this Friday morning, Lance stroll took part in this second session. The Canadian was nevertheless unable to go all the way, leaving his place to Fernando Alonso, called to the rescue for a little over an hour of driving.

Now it's time for the 2025 season. Formula 1 with a kick-off scheduled in a fortnight in Melbourne with the Australian Grand Prix (March 14-16).
