A place behind his teammate, the future driver Haas did not hide his disappointment after qualifying. Esteban Ocon will leave 15e on the starting grid this Sunday (15:00 p.m.) at Monza. However, the Norman noted the improvements in his Alpine between the start of the weekend and qualifying. Which tends to reinforce his frustration with the result.
« I think that for the moment the weekend has been much better than the one in Zandvoort where we had difficulties in terms of performances, so a little disappointed with this qualification., explained the French pilot. With what we changed between Friday and Saturday we still found quite a bit of performance in the car, which was more like the one we usually know in terms of driving sensation and balance. There were fewer strange difficulties, like in the Netherlands. All that is positive. Now we need to understand where the improvement comes from exactly, in relation to the things we changed, to see if we can find additional elements. We could perhaps have gained a few places, but that's how it is today... we'll have to try to do better tomorrow. »
A track soiled by gravel traps
Esteban Ocon was also asked about the conditions on the Monza circuit. During all of qualifying, but also during the free practice sessions, the cars went a little wide on some corners, bringing stones and dust from the gravel trap onto the track. But the driver ofAlpine is less worried about that for the Grand Prix tomorrow.
« I think it will be less serious than in qualifying., reassured Ocon. I had Charles Leclerc in front and in fact with the speed at which the cars pass, it puts all the dust on the track and it slides when entering the bends. There are things that need to be improved. Otherwise, the circuit is better than before for the new cars, but we should try to have perhaps kerbs on the outside of the entrance to the bends, so that the earth does not come onto the track when entering the bend. »
