It's a contrasting Saturday for Haas en qualifications. While youngster Ollie Bearman qualified brilliantly in Q3, his teammate Esteban Ocon failed to make it out of Q1 with only an 18th place on the starting grid for this Sunday. A big step backwards for the Frenchman, 11th in the same timed lap exercise in China and an excellent fifth in the race in Shanghai, after the disqualifications of the two Ferrari.
« It's a circuit (Suzuka) that normally suits me well, Ocon told Canal +. We tried a lot of things this weekend between the two cars, lots of different parts in each session, but unfortunately something didn't work. On our side, we were lacking a lot of performance in quite a few places on the track, that was clear and obvious. It's a shame. A difficult session for us, now it's good that it worked on Ollie's [Bearman] car. We need to look at why and how we can resolve it on mine. It's good that the team managed to improve on one side, we need to be able to do it on both [cars]. »
« There were a lot of different things during the weekend, now we should have also had this performance gain in qualifying, unfortunately we didn't have it. »
