Lewis Hamilton set the best time in the first practice session for the Abu Dhabi GP just ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg.

F1-EL1: Hamilton ahead of Rosberg in Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) signed the first reference in testing for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by completing a lap of the track in 1'43"754 with a little more than a tenth ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg. In addition to being the fastest, the W06 Hybrids were among the most diligent with an average of 30 laps covered by the drivers.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) was the closest to the Silver Arrows with more than seven tenths behind. Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull), Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) and Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) are the last drivers less than a second from the best time. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) follows in seventh place ahead of Sergio Pérez (Force India), Pastor Maldonado (Lotus) and the Williams by Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas.

In 12th place, Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) preceded the McLaren by Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. Carlos Sainz Jr (Toro Rosso) finished between the Saubers of Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson. Jolyon Palmer (Lotus), replacement for Romain Grosjean for this session, was only able to complete eight laps due to a hydraulic leak.

The second practice session for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be contested from 14 p.m. (French time) and will be followed live on Canal+ Sport.
