F1-EL1: The British play their part in Hungary

After suffering from rainy conditions during testing at Silverstone and Hockenheim, the teams were able to take advantage of sunny weather in Budapest to carry out a testing session without disruption. McLaren seems at ease on the Hungarian Tourniquet since the two MP4-27s finished in first place. Lewis Hamilton achieved the best time in 1'22"821, a tenth ahead of his teammate Jenson Button. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) took longer to get on the track but the Championship leader still finished in third place, five tenths behind the British. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) complete the top five eight tenths behind, the Frenchman having taken advantage of his last flying lap to set his best time despite the traffic on the track.

Michael Schumacher (Mercedes) is the first driver more than a second behind the best time. The seven-time world champion is just a breath ahead of Felipe Massa (Ferrari) and Kimi Räikkönen, who was still testing the new DRS developed by Lotus F1 team. Valtteri Bottas (Williams) and Sergio Perez (Sauber) complete the top ten, their teammates Pastor Maldonado and Kamui Kobayashi following in 11th and 12th place respectively. Red Bull is behind in this session since Mark Webber finished in 13th position while his teammate Sebastian Vettel ranks 15th behind Paul di Resta (Force India). The pilots Toro Rosso follow the reigning double world champion with Daniel Ricciardo 16th ahead of Jean-Éric Vergne. Jules Bianchi (Force India) ranks 18th after completing a program focused on the aerodynamics of the VJM05. Charles Pic (Marussia) takes 20th place with more than a tenth ahead of his teammate Timo Glock.

The second free practice session for the Hungarian GP will take place from 14 p.m. to 15:30 p.m.
