F1-EL2: Hamilton continues his momentum in Monaco

If the first session had been spared this morning, the rain disrupted the progress of the second free practice session of the Monaco Grand Prix, leaving the circuit devoid of any activity during a large part of the session. The drivers came out in the last quarter of an hour after the rain stopped, on intermediate tires, or even rain rubber, notably for Nico Rosberg. During the first thirty minutes, the dry track had allowed Lewis Hamilton to set the best time in 1’17”192.

The pilot Mercedes ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg by more than seven tenths and both Ferrari de Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. Single-seaters equipped with the Power Unit Renault make a group shot with Daniil Kvayt (Red Bull) in 5th position ahead of both Toro Rosso de Carlos Sainz et Max Verstappen. Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) climbed into the top 10. The Swede Marcus Ericsson did not set a time, his Sauber C34 facing a mechanical problem.

The session was interrupted by a red flag, deployed following the accident at Roberto Merhi's Manor, made a mistake at the exit of the tunnel, and hit the barriers at the Port chicane. The Spaniard emerged unscathed from this mishap which coincided with the arrival of the rain.

La F1 will return to the Monaco track on Saturday morning for the third and final free practice session before qualifying which will be followed live from 14 p.m. on our website.
