F1-EL2: Vettel and Red Bull position themselves in Abu Dhabi

Sebastian Vettel set the best time in the first practice session for the Abu Dhabi GP. The Mercedes and Lotus still seem the closest despite a difficult evening for Romain Grosjean.

F1-EL2: Vettel and Red Bull position themselves in Abu Dhabi

Sebastian Vettel set the best time on the first day of testing in Abu Dhabi. Taking advantage of the evening which offered more breathable conditions, the quadruple world champion completed a lap in 1'41"335 with his soft tires, 0"155 better than his teammate Mark Webber who showed the best performance. fast with the medium tires used at the start of the session. As in the first session, the Mercedes and the Lotuses seem to be the most efficient after the Red Bull. The Lotus of Kimi Räikkönen finished fourth between the two Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. However, Romain Grosjean no longer appears in the top ten after having achieved the reference time of the first session. The Frenchman broke a brake disc when embarking on his flying lap on medium tires and thus saw his session cut short.

The McLaren do not seem too far behind since the two MP4-28s of Sergio Pérez and Jenson Button finish six tenths behind. There Team showed herself in a better light with Fernando Alonso in eighth position ahead of Sauber Nico Hulkenberg and the second Ferrari of Felipe Massa. Paul di Resta finished 13th behind Esteban Gutiérrez and Romain Grosjean, but the Scot also had to watch part of the session from the pits after suffering a puncture. His teammate Adrian Sutil follows in 15th place between Pastor Maldonado and Daniel Ricciardo who is ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne by a tenth. Giedo Van der Garde is ahead of Jules Bianchi and Charles Pic by three tenths.
