F1: Canada helped by Ecclestone

A drop of 100 million dollars, that's what it would have taken for the return of the Canadian Grand Prix to the F1 calendar. The mayor of Montreal, who declared that the amount demanded by Bernie Ecclestone was simply unacceptable, therefore obtained satisfaction. Indeed, last year, the big financier of the Formula 1 demanded $175 million to sign a five-year contract with the organizers of the Canadian Grand Prix. According to the Globe and Mail newspaper, this figure would have fallen precipitously, reaching a sum of $75 million over five years.

Bernie Ecclestone would have agreed to lower his offer due to the economic situation and the desire of the teams to return to race in North America. According to the Globe and Mail, Ecclestone was also instructed by his bosses at CVC, who own the commercial rights to Formula 1, to do everything possible to keep Renault et Toyota en F1. Devant la crise économique qui touche le secteur automobile, CVC et Bernie Ecclestone ont donc pris le chemin de la raison.
