F1 / Mugello: Horner doubts the usefulness of the tests

In 2008, in-season testing was banned by the FIA due to budgetary restrictions. However, many were calling for at least one session integrated into the middle of the schedule. This wish was fulfilled by the FIA but for his part, Christian Horner questions the usefulness of these tests.

“I agree that as soon as all the tests are useful”, admits Christian Horner to Autosport. “But from there to testing in high season, it?s a more complicated question. When you look at the prices these tests cost, it's quite significant. We have covered a distance equivalent to three Grands Prix so would it not be better to organize an additional Grand Prix? »

Furthermore, the cost is not only financial but also human for Christian Horner. “The season is exhausting for our men”, he added. “Especially since we cut the testing teams a long time ago. When we look at cost reduction objectives, we should review whether this type of testing is useful or not in my opinion. »
