Fernando Alonso absent in Australia

A few days later Fernando Alonso's accident occurred Sunday February 22 in Barcelona in Catalonia, during pre-season testing, McLaren just announced that the double Spanish world champion would not take part in the first meeting of the season, on March 15 in Melbourne, Australia. Alonso thus followed the latest recommendations of doctors.

"After carrying out a comprehensive series of tests and analyses, some last night, Fernando Alonso's doctors have informed him that they find him asymptomatic of any medical problem, that they do not see the slightest evidence of a injury, and that they therefore describe him as completely healthy from a neurological and cardiac point of view.

However, doctors recommended, following the concussion he suffered, to limit, for the moment and as much as possible, environmental risk factors which could potentially lead to another concussion so soon after the previous one, so as to minimize the chances of second impact syndrome, which is a normal medical procedure when treating athletes after concussions. In order to limit these environmental risk factors, his doctors have indicated that he should not participate in the Australian Grand Prix, which will take place from March 13 to 15.

Did Fernando understand and accept this advice? The doctors acknowledge that he feels fit, and that he considers himself ready to race, and, which is the case, they are not concerned that he has already started running again. physical training, in preparation for a return for the Malaysian Grand Prix (March 27-29). » specifies the press release published today. The Iberian pilot also indicated via his Twitter account that “It would be hard not to be in Australia, but I understand these recommendations. A second impact in less than 21 days, NO. »

McLaren also announced that Danish Kevin Magnussen would replace Alonso in the seat of the Honda-powered MP4-30.
