Fernando Alonso still believes in his title chances

Author of a relatively anonymous performance during the first round of the season in Australia, Fernando Alonso knows that the best is yet to come for Team Ferrari and the F14 T. car Italian in fact appeared to lag behind compared to the Mercedes W05, McLaren MP4-29 or others Williams FW36 powered by the Mercedes V6 turbo/hybrid, in terms of pure performance on the Melbourne track. “I believe we can still fight for the championship, explains the former pilot Renault. We have more potential than we showed in Australia. We need to put everything together and then we will have a better weekend. The team has the facilities and talent to do a very good job. We can be stronger and we will do much better, I am sure. »

“It wasn’t a perfect start. It feels like a repeat of the last two years, but there are different regulations and pace of development that apply. Our hopes are perfectly intact. We need to see how the next races go, to see our own performance, to know how we can quickly develop the car to be in a better position. In Australia we were not happy with the performance and we need to improve as quickly as possible. »

Free practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix will begin tomorrow morning at 3 a.m. French time.
