Fernando Alonso: Ready for a new era

After five seasons spent with Ferrari, Fernando Alonso is back to Woking (after his visit in 2007) to take with him Jenson Button the legendary duo McLaren? Honda. The double Spanish world champion admits to being ready for this new challenge.

“If the winter period is a time of rest and relaxation, my motivation could not be greater for the new season, indicates the 33-year-old pilot. I trained a lot during the break, to reach my peak fitness, and I worked hard to prepare for this new era of McLaren-Honda. I have never felt so good, or so ready for a new season. »

Alonso also knows that the first days will not necessarily be easy for his new car, which embeds the all-new V6 turbo / Japanese hybrid. “Of course we expect a steep learning curve, but it is clear that at McLaren-Honda there is total commitment. We are all focused on the challenge ahead, and I feel very honored to be part of a relationship that has shared so much history together. My goal is to help write a new chapter in the history of McLaren-Honda. Our first objective is to learn as much as possible during pre-season testing, understand the package and get the most performance possible from it. It won't be easy or without problems but we are ready. Why: Because our priority will be development. McLaren has always been characterized by its ability to quickly produce updates and develop a high-performance package. »

Alonso also admits to being excited to play alongside Jenson Button, “a great teammate, and an experienced competitor. Together, we will push the team forward, to learn, progress, and achieve the best possible results. We are ready for a new era. »
