After a Mexico Grand Prix which saw Alpha Tauri return to equalityAlpine in the Manufacturers' standings (106 points each), the French team had to react to regain this 5th place. In qualifying session this Friday evening, Fernando Alonso showed the way by qualifying in Q3, something that had not happened since Turkey (October 8 to 10). The Spaniard should start in 10th position for the sprint race scheduled for this Saturday, at 20:30 p.m. French time, while his teammate, Esteban Ocon, will be one place behind him.

“We'll see how our day goes, it's sprint qualifying and after all we've done well in the past, declares the double world champion. I will be aggressive tonight (SATURDAY), as always, and I’ll try to have a little fun.”

Fernando Alonso would nevertheless have liked to grab a few additional places on the starting grid but at the end of Q2 the Bull of Asturias felt that his car had reached his limits on the track. “It was super tight. The qualifications have started reasonably well, and we progressed into Q2 quite comfortably. I think from Q2 onwards I was doing similar lap times and I think we had reached the limit. We wanted to be a little higher on the grid because tonight's start (SATURDAY) will be crucial ».

The sprint race (20:30 p.m.) will be preceded by a free practice session, the second of the weekend, at 16:00 p.m. (French time). The São Paulo Grand Prix will start at 18 p.m. this Sunday.
