All eyes were on him this Saturday in Bahrain. Author of the best times in EL2 and EL3, Fernando Alonso went into qualifying as a serious outsider. Some even saw him as a real contender for pole position. If he did not succeed in getting ahead of the Red Bull or Ferrari, the Bull of Asturias still invited itself to the big table with the 5e time notably ahead of Mercedes.

A performance which confirms the enormous step forward taken by Aston Martin in the space of a year when his cars had taken the door from Q1 at the same stage. “ The whole weekend has gone well for us so far, reflects the Aston Martin driver. We are very happy to be able to start in the Top 5 for the first race. Last year, the team found itself eliminated in Q1 and now there are 5 of use on the grid. Everyone on the team has done an incredible job and it's a solid foundation we can build on to start the season."

Fernando Alonso ready to take his chance

Ambushed in 5e position, Fernando Alonso has the cards in hand to achieve a great Grand Prix this Sunday. If on a flying lap he perhaps lost a little against Red Bull and Ferrari, the Asturian impressed with his racing pace in free practice. Feared by some, the former pilot Renault could be one of the entertainers of this opening round this Sunday and above all a threat to watch.

« We'll see what the race has in store for us., he advances. We have been competitive in every session and we are starting close to the podium positions. If there is an opportunity, then we will look to take advantage of it. » Enough to give hope to all his fans whose fervor is felt at the start of the year.
