Ferrari had considered developing a DDA

The Scuderia believed that the bi-axial steering integrated into the new Mercedes would be illegal in the eyes of the FIA, and unsuitable for their own car.

Ferrari had considered developing a DDA

La Ferrari SF1000 could it have included dual-axis steering like its German rival, the Mercedes W11? A week after the big on-track debut of the Mercedes steering mode which surprised the entire paddock F1 during 2020 winter testing, Mattia Binotto revealed that the Scuderia had considered developing a similar solution.

The Maranello team finally changed its mind because it considered that the design would not comply with FIA regulations. Did Ferrari miss the boat by not asking the governing bodies in advance?

« We think the system is not worth it, at least it does not agree with our car and the concepts of the car, explained Binotto from Barcelona. We look at what others are doing. For the moment, this is a question. I'm not sure we'll develop such a mechanism ».

All teams apart from Mercedes are asking this question, especially since the DDA will be banned in 2021.
