Ferrari disappointed to be behind Red Bull at Sepang

The differences were small between the Team Ferrari and Red Bull Racing, but it was the Red Bull who had the upper hand over the Prancing Horse at the end of qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Max Verstappen et Daniel Ricciardo have locked the second row of the Sepang grid, ahead by just over a tenth Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

“We expected it to be close, but we thought we had the advantage in the end. So I'm disappointed to see the Red Bulls ahead of us, but they were simply faster, recognized Sebastian Vettel. There wasn't much missing, but this tenth was enough for them. We need to see where we can still improve. »

“We thought we were second in line behind the Mercedes, but we should have a good pace in the race and strategy will also be important, said the four-time world champion. There is some leeway as we all have to use the harder set of tires and that should spice things up. In addition, rain and heat are always to be taken into account in Malaysia. »

Kimi Räikkönen is also frustrated at not being able to set a better time in Q3.

“It was going pretty well until my last attempt. I had traffic on my exit lap and had trouble getting the tires to work in the first two corners and went a little wide, explained the 2007 world champion. The behavior of the car was good and I was hoping to do a little better, but we will try to gain places in the race. »

“We don't know what the race will be like and we're not starting from the best position on the grid, underlined the Finn. The asphalt is new and it is difficult to say which tire performs better. The choice will depend on the conditions. »
