Everything didn't go as planned for Ferrari during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix last Sunday. After losing Carlos Sainz the 1er tour like in Australia two weeks earlier, the Scuderia saw Charles Leclerc make a mistake while chasing Sergio Pérez with less than 10 laps remaining. Too much on the attack, the Monegasque lost control of his F1-75 at the High Variant and almost ended up in the wall. Luckily, he was able to restart and cross the finish line in 6e position limiting breakage.

« We are a little unhappy with the results. But we have to keep our heads high, it's part of the race, pointed the team principal Mattia Binotto at the end of the Grand Prix. Some races can go badly like this but I think we still have a competitive package. We keep smiling and look forward to the next Grands Prix. »

If their misfortunes allowed Red Bull and especially Max Verstappen to make up a good part of their deficit in the championship (the Dutchman came back to 27 points behind Charles Leclerc), the Reds are not losing hope for the future. “ They (Redbull) are very strong, recognizes the leader of the Scuderia. We know they are developing their cars but two weeks ago we had the best car in Australia. Today, it's the opposite. It will be race by race. The balance may change but I think we had a good package overall."

At Imola, Ferrari may have suffered the blow in terms of development. The Scuderia has in fact decided not to make any major changes for the first European round, preferring to wait a little longer before introducing them, unlike Red Bull. In the end, the difference between the two cars was felt and the battle turned in favor of the bulls.

« We know that development will be one of the key points of the season without a doubt, continues Mattia Binotto. We know the strength of Red Bull. They are coming back gradually but we will analyze our results (from Imola) and keep moving forward. » A performance gap which could once again be seen in Miami (May 8) where Ferrari still does not plan to make the first major changes to its F1-75.
