Ferrari, all the way back!

Preparing as best as possible for the 2021 campaign without abandoning the end of the 2020 season, this is the mantra of Ferrari at the start of the last 6 races of the season.

After hitting rock bottom during a Spa-Monza-Mugello triptych that was painful to say the least, the Scuderia began the start of recovery in Sochi with the introduction of the first developments intended to validate the aerodynamic development plan for 2021.

This start of improvement was confirmed two weeks ago in Germany where the SF1000 included additional new features. The scenario will repeat itself this week in Portimão for the return of the F1 in Portugal after 24 years of absence.

« The main thing will be to validate our development directions, said Enrico Cardile, appointed head of the newly created Ferrari performance department during the summer. The trends from the last Grands Prix are proving positive and we hope that the momentum continues this weekend.

It is important to keep in mind that current developments are taking place with next year in mind. That said, we are also aiming for a performance improvement with the SF1000.

We would like to be able to invite ourselves into the battle for 4th place. One of our goals is to fight for the 2nd or 3rd row of the grid more often between now and December. »

Cardile also believes that “ the rear end of the car offers the highest potential for gain and improvement ". " This is the area that has seen the most significant changes to the technical regulations, and how our car is designed leads us to believe that major progress can be made there, specifies the transalpine engineer.

This is why we chose to spend our two development tokens in this area. ».

If the technical regulations will remain stable for the most part next year, a direct consequence of the postponement of the 2021 revolution due to the Coronavirus pandemic, each team will still be able to develop its 2020 concept in a targeted manner, via these famous “ tokens” precisely.
