Ferrari and Vettel respond in Budapest

After the domination of Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) yesterday during the first two free practice sessions of the Hungarian Grand Prix, la Team Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel offered a strong response this morning in FP3 at the Hungaroring.

Sebastian Vettel waited until the second part of the session, and the switch to super-soft tires, to set a best lap in 1'17"017, more than four tenths faster than his teammate Kimi Räikkönen.

Mercedes is almost nine tenths behind the best SF70H, with the W08 of Valtteri Bottas. Lewis Hamilton only sets the fifth fastest time in 1'18"434, more than 1"4 behind his championship rival and behind Max Verstappen (Redbull).

Stoffel Vandoorne places first McLaren MCL32 – Honda in sixth position at 1″6 and ahead Nico Hulkenberg, who will be penalized five places on the starting grid for a gearbox change on his Renault R.S. 17, and seventh in 1’18”699.

Daniel Ricciardo stopped

The day, however, started less well for Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian driver, eighth in FP3, was forced to immobilize his car at the side of the track, with a gearbox stuck in fifth gear.

 

 

The McLaren of Fernando Alonso and the second Renault R.S. 17 of Jolyon Palmer complete the top 10 ahead Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso). Esteban Ocon, 12th, is the best representative of Force India and precedes Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) and Sergio Pérez (Force India).

The Haas de Romain Grosjean, spun during the session, and Kevin Magnussen take the 15th and 16th places in front of the Williams by Felipe Massa and Lance stroll and the two Saubers from Wehrlein and Ericsson.

Note that Felipe Massa, ill yesterday but who was able to return to the seat of his Williams this morning, did not seem to feel well again according to the BBC. The qualifications, to be followed live with commentary on our website, will begin at 14 p.m.
