Ferrari F10: words to the engineers

Aldo Costa, technical director: “The F10 is the result of intense work which began in the spring of 2009. The strategic decision was to concentrate on the development of a new car. The double diffuser revolutionized the design of the project. Our main advantage is that the car, the engine and the transmission were designed under the same roof. We have appreciated this potential every day and we still want to exploit it as much as possible. The F10 represents a big step forward in competitiveness. »

Luca Marmorini, head of the engine and electronics departments: “The 2010 season represents a new challenge for engine engineers. The ban on refueling during races changes the consumption parameters which become preponderant in performance. The gain in fuel management involves everyone, from engineers to drivers. We cannot change the engine and we no longer have SREC. We've invested in materials and processes to reduce costs, optimize fuel and lubrication to help the F10 win. Reliability remains the first objective. We worked to optimize it on the bench, very close to racing conditions. »

Nicholas Tombazis, chief designer: “The diffuser is fundamental. To optimize performance, we revised the rear axle and moved the different components to integrate it as best as possible. On the F10, it is much bigger and more efficient compared to previous seasons. »
