Ferrari 'happy' if Hamilton available in 2021 transfer market

Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, it's a rumor that often comes up in the paddock under the pretext that every self-respecting great driver must one day take up the challenge of Maranello

The Briton has often made fun of it in the past, recently stating that “ a lot of Ferrari fans want to see me come to Italy ". Present at Mercedes since 2013, Hamilton has won five of his six titles there and helped build an incredible machine around him.

However, the current contract of the 2019 champion ends at the end of next season, just like that of many top-class drivers such as Max Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel, or Daniel Ricciardo. Therefore, the possibility of seeing the cards completely reshuffled in 2021 cannot be ruled out.

Asked at the FIA press conference whether Ferrari would like to recruit Hamilton in the event he leaves Mercedes, Mattia Binotto delivered an answer that was interesting to say the least.

« Lewis is a great driver, a fantastic driver, declared the head of Gestione Sportiva from Abu Dhabi. Knowing that it could be available in 2021 can only make us happy but honestly, it's still too early to make any decisions. We are happy with our drivers and we will start discussing in due time next year ».

Hamilton has often linked the continuation of the Mercedes adventure to the presence of his boss Toto wolff. However, the future of the Austrian manager is also uncertain.

« Lewis and I have become very close over the past seven seasons., commented Wolff, sitting alongside Binotto. We arrived at Mercedes the same year and we were able to build a relationship of trust.

At the same time, we are part of a much larger organization where everyone plays their role. It's nice to hear what he says about me but I also want to know if he's staying. There are many decisions to make during the winter ».

In any case, this promises a lively transfer season next year!
