Ferrari doesn't like the new scale

The new points scale introduced by the FIA this season offers a bigger reward to the winners. Without this modification, the driver and manufacturer rankings would be very different.

Ferrari doesn't like the new scale

As a reminder, the current scale is in descending order: 25 points, 18 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 point for the tenth of the race while the reward format was: 10 points , 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point for the eighth. If the winner has an advantage, the drivers further back can now try to obtain points from tenth place, in order to make the end of the race more lively in the middle of the pack.

But this format is not suitable for Team Ferrari which carried out its calculations by transposing its results with the points scale still in force last season. It emerged that if this scale had not been modified, Ferrari would be at the top of the ranking.

The Maranello men also compared the developments of each team at the fifth round of the season compared to last year while retaining the old points scale. Ferrari is in the lead with a difference of 41 points to its advantage, followed by McLaren with 33 additional points, then Renault F1 with 11 more points, and Red Bull with 4 points better. On the other hand, Brawn GP seems to be in free fall this year since it is behind by 47 points.

But the numbers don't matter. Ferrari will not need calculators to know that it will have to be ahead of McLaren and Red Bull in Monaco to take the lead in the drivers' and constructors' championships.
