Ferrari: Our tests with Pirelli were legal

The case Mercedes-Pirelli has already caused a lot of ink to flow, but the Brackley team was not the only team to benefit from the clause made between the manufacturer of the F1 and the FIA. There Team Ferrari also carried out a test session after the Bahrain Grand Prix at the end of April. But unlike the star team which carried out its tests with the W04 which is competing in the 2013 Championship, the Italian team underlines the fact that its tests were carried out in compliance with the sporting code which authorizes teams to carry out driving sessions with a car aged at least two seasons.

“For a little over a year, we have had the opportunity to carry out 1000km of tests for the development of Pirelli tires”, recalled a spokesperson for the Scuderia on Speed.com. “For Ferrari, it has always been clear that these tests cannot be carried out with a car from the 2013 season. The question of running an old single-seater is irrelevant because this is completely in accordance with the regulations. This is something that we have never tried to hide, it has been done in complete transparency. All teams have this possibility. The tires and the specification of this test are elements known by Pirelli but not by us. »

Mercedes and Pirelli are threatened with heavy sanctions by the FIA. The German team carried out secret tests with the discipline's supplier before competing in the Monaco GP using the Silver Arrows from the 2013 season which were driven by Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
