Ferrari 'not as optimistic as last year'

The first week of winter testing of the 2020 season F1 in Barcelona allowed us to form a first opinion of the forces present. If Mercedes responds present with ingenious Two-Axis Steering, its rival team Ferrari seemed more in difficulty with in particular mechanical problems encountered this Friday on the SF1000 of Sebastian Vettel.

If Prancing Horse Team Principal Mattia Binotto remains cautious about his forecasts for the year, he mentions certain concerns in the preparation of his team.

“I'm not as optimistic as last year, he admitted, quoted on the official F1 website. I think some are faster than us at the moment. It's hard to know the gap and I'll study the data over the next few days, but I don't think we're as fast as them at the moment. »

Ferrari's concerns are reinforced by the apparent good shape of the Red Bull RB16, the Austrian team still being considered one of the three biggest structures in the paddock.

“We changed our approach to testing and we dedicated the first session of these three days to studying the mapping of the car with different aero configurations without really optimizing the settings and looking at the general performance”, the Italian insisted.

Is Scuderia Ferrari hiding its game or is it really in difficulty with its SF1000? The second week of testing on the Catalunya circuit will perhaps provide a more precise view of the capabilities of the car Italian before the first Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 15.
