Ferrari thinks to escape penalties

If Scuderia Ferrari makes an excellent start to the season, playing on par with Mercedes F1, the stable of Maranello has already spent many elements of the Power Unit since it installed a 3rd turbo on the SF70H of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen for the Russian GP. However, the regulations limit the number of Power Unit elements to 4 for the entire season.

If there are 17 races left this year in F1, Luigi Fraboni, director of engine track operations at Scuderia Ferrari, believes that the team should be able to stay within the limits allowed to escape place penalties on the grid.

“We encountered some small problems in the first races, explained Luigi Fraboni in the Sochi paddock. The changes made to the engine and the turbo were made for safety reasons because we are at a strategic moment of the season and we do not want to make any mistakes. From what we've seen, we should be using our 4th Power Unit items at the end of the season. »

Scuderia Ferrari also made these changes in order to quickly benefit from the developments made on the Power Unit.

“We are happy that we no longer have development tokens and that we can constantly continue the development of the engine, added Luigi Fraboni. Our first concern is to have the maximum in each race. We have put a lot more people on the development of the engine since we are free to evolve in this area during the season and we have been able to make good progress. »
